Vietnam: The Overthrow of China and the Persistence of Chinese Influence
Selections from A Visit to Vietnam, which I composed during several visits, consist here of pages about Hanoi, where the Van Mieu temple celebrates Confucius and symbolizes Chinese political and cultural hegemony during a period of nearly 1000 years.
The first section (5) was originally titled “The Chinese Domination”; the second (9), “Taking on Tradition.” Several pages of the latter have been translated into Italian by Alessio Rosoldi and published in Anterem 79 (Verona, Italy). See About MM: Italian.
